Shadowbox- gallery set (How To)

A lot of questions get asked in the RapidWeaver forum about creating a gallery set from Shadowbox , so this short how-to should help explain using this .

What is a gallery set ?
In Shadowbox, you can group media(images, movies, flash) as a set, in this case a gallery set , when the shadowbox opens you get previous and next arrows or text selections to move between the gallery set items you have set up.

An example of a gallery set item

In this example with Shadowbox v2 you get a graphical link indicating more items, no need to close the overlay and select an additional image :)
So let us proceed to make a gallery set item to pop up with Shadowbox.

Make a link

Select Text
Add Link

Link to image – shadowbox setting

1. Add Link to to asset, this could be a movie too

2. Add custom attribute

3. add the rel tag shadowbox[test] . This is to notify Shadowbox that the image is part of a set

no spaces in the gallery name or it will not work :D

Test the link

Here we have the image in a Shadowbox, ths actual item is in gallery set of 3 items. (you can move between a Flash file, a web page or image anything you want )

That’s it

  1. Hi Kb,

Thanks again for this… These mechanics are understood and clear from your instructions.

My confusion and others on the forum has to do with the one step not mentioned here… the actual ASSET that is a set of images. I quote you: “In Shadowbox, you can group media(images, movies, flash) as a set”

HOW DO YOU CREATE A “SET” THAT IS LINKABLE AND WORKS?

I have created a folder of images and uploaded that through the “Assets” Panel in RWv4… didn’t work. Then I created a “Photo Album” page and called that “page” through the “Assest Link” pulldown (#1 in example, above)… didn’t work.

In your example Item #1 above you link to an asset:
    “Busy Sync – Sync to ical… ”
… which I assume is multiple images.

HOW DID YOU CREATE THIS ASSSET “SET” AND WHERE DID YOU UPLOAD IT?

Obviously, this one step is something simple but we’re missing it an are not sure how to proceed…

Thanks gain for you help and this post.

Moments later I had an epiphany… You add the rel tag to EACH image (I was thinking that I had to upload a “Set” as one asset and link that).

Can I make a suggestion for your instructions above to help people like me that need it all spelled… ? I suggest the following for item #3 above:

3.) Add the rel tag shadowbox[NameOfSet]for EACH image/movie/etc that you want to be part of the set. This is to notify Shadowbox that the image is part of a set.

Once you get used to working with assets or even external image sources in RapidWeaver, you will get the hang of this . We have some screencasts covering basics to expert ninja moves in RapidWeaver :D

However, for each image(this also includes movies and the like) you add a rel tag to each of these for shadowbox .

I would not really advise adding a lot of movies as page assets as your RapidWeaver upload time will slow down but create a storage or upload flder and link to these media assets with an absolute url (http://site.com/mediastorage/movie.mov for instance). This is well covered in the RapidWeaver forums too

OK, i can add movies and images using assets but how do you add a rel tag to each image that you want to appear in a gallery?
I have 5 images in my assets, and I want one image to act as a trigger, when clicked the shadowbox effects happen and i get the 5 images in a gallery. At the moment I can only get one to appear,
    any ideas?
    cheers

Hey everyone! I was wondering how you actually give “rel” tags to images to include them in an album.

I’ve set up a test site and added two images in my assets, and draged a thumbnail into my webpage and linked it to one of the asset images with the rel=shadowbox attribute. However, what I would like is one thumbnail to open a gallery of multiple images.

So far I have one thumbnail to open one picture, I have also managed to have two thumbnails open two separate images but the images are part of one set so you can click next to see the next image in the set.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

whilst we don’t cover support on free videos :) you should review the custom attributes when you add a link , there you can make the rel tag
