    Hi there,

I am new to RapidWeaver, actually. Last week, I decided to get FormLoom and the developer recommended me to sign up here, which I just did today. First, not thinking it would be necessary but know, as I “junior” member I discover how great the tutorials are! PayLoom is indeed a plug-in that I’d like to have since I am now in the process of making a little site. Thanks for posting such great tutorials!

    cheers,
    Hansjoerg

I am happy to see that you made a tutorial for making a digital download store. I was hoping you could also make one on how to make a subscription site. I think a digital download store doesn’t offer much protection from digital piracy. Just my thought. Anyway, hope to see more screencast products geared for us newbies/nontechies!

    Hi Mike
There are a number of ways of protecting content in a store front … this is one of them. However, what you are alluding to is a membership system…quite a different way of working and there are quite a number of application frameworks . All I can say is stay tuned to supportcasts.

  4. Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the response. I’ve been looking for an easy way to make a membership system at the Rapidweaver forum. Found no easy solution as the others say. Some suggested using Amember pro, which I felt is complicated to a non-techie/newbie who wants to setup his own small but scalable online business(example: www.lynda.com). Hope you guys can help.
    Regards,

First of all, it’s really cool to see more RapidWeaver users building ecommerce and membership sites!

I publish lots of niche websites, including a video training course on rapidly developing membership sites and RapidWeaver is GREAT for building good looking, SEO optimized front end sites with a paid membership back-end.

One very easy way to accomplish this is to consider creating a WordPress installation as your “members” area and cms to deliver your premium, paid access content.

You can build your site as normal in RW then just redirect buyers post-purchase into a private password protected WP blog that you charge a monthly subscription for using Paypal.

More advanced “bolt-on” options include aMember as was already mentioned and my favorite is RapidActionProfits with their Membership Bundle:

It’s expensive compared to the cost of RapidWeaver, but very inexpensive in the long run if you have 50 to 100 members paying you $20 a month for access to your information.

But like I said, you can also get started by building your first membership back-end just using WordPress and email followups for free.

You can watch a video about the training course here:

    Hi Brian
As you can guess we are a WordPress site but In RapidWeaver we can of course extend this with the amazing WP-Blog plug-in , as WP Themes can be quite pricey and use some of the great RW themes out there. In addition to using any membership system. Thanks for highlighting your membership offering :)

Great screencast Kevin! I’ve looked at LinkLok and didn’t know how easy it would be to use until I saw this cast. I’ll be selling online content next month and this looks like a winner! Thanks too for the discount on LinkLok.

Just have to report back that I have a digital download site fully functional (in test mode, and the defaults from the screencast are changed).

Could you elaborate on setting up the robot.txt file to omit the downloads folder for getting searched. I’m new to site indexing.

    Thanks!

  9. Kevin - http://SupportCasts.com/ says:

That’s is great news Grant :D
Setting up a robots is very easy to (try ) and block the robot crawlers.

If you have an account, or if not, sign in for Google WebMaster tool [http://Google.com/webmasters/]s they offer a robots.txt generator

Kevin, I have two questions regarding the digital download. 1. Everything is going well, but I don’t see a folder with the unusual name that the digital download goes into. I uploaded the files specified in the video and it doesn’t show up. It also looks like you created a folder called “link” which I also did, but no unusual folder name. 2. I’ve watch the Formlooms video and don’t really get how you created the page with the formloom information. Can ou help me with this. Thanks.

    Kevin.

Figured out the folder question. I didn’t realize that I have to create the unusual folder, duh. Anyway, thanks for the great video. I never would have made it this far without it.

Working on the Formloom page now.

    Thanks

Where/how do you insert the robots.txt code in a rapidweaver5 site?

  13. Admin - http://supportcasts.com says:

The place to put the robots.txt file in not in RW but rather directly on to your server into the root of the domain directory. I use Transmit to do this or the free FTP app, Cyberduck. Most hosting comes with a file manager you can use to place files onto the server as well.
