We all like options in the land of RapidWeaver and especially when working with the Stacks plugin from YourHead, so here is our (free) Stacks Add-On for including FlowPlayer to your pages and site .

FlowPlayer is a smart looking Flash player with a GPL license (see more at flowplayer.org) supporting FLV and MP4 formatted videos.

  • Download the DMG file here
  • Drag the file content to your stacks add on folder /username/Library/Application Support/Rapidweaver/Stacks
  • Restart RapidWeaver
  • And you will have a new Stack in your Library

I should mention that you can refer to your video file either by assets/ or use and Http reference :D
If you are having problems with Flowplayer appearing in preview mode , adjust your Flash Securiy permissions see related link at Adobe Support.

A short express video on usage is available also :)
Enjoy the new add-on to Stacks.

Brilliant Kevin, another easy to follow tutorial.

    Thanks a ton

    Hi Kevin,

Thank you for this tutorial. I’ve tried this out and it doesn’t work here. This is what I did. In iMovie ‘09 I’ve exported a movie file to iTunes. You get a .m4v file. The m4v file you can change to a .mp4 file. Just change the name and the program askes if you want to use a .mp4 file.

After that I dragged the file to the assets folder and I have changed the link file under the info button to assets/myfile.mp4 so it is pointing to my mp4 file.

So now it must be working you would think. No way! When I hit the preview button nothing happens. Then I tried to preview with the firefox browser. Noting happening. Just a plain gray field.

Did I do something wrong? In your webcast there is just the standardlink to assets/mymovie.mp4. I see no link to a external webpage or file under your assets folder.

    Excellent Tool !!!
Is there a chance to get a player with more than 600 pixel (width) ?

    Kind Regards
    Holger

  6. admin - http:// says:

After 600px I would then use the full screen option :)

What can I be doing wrong as I’m going as per the instructions?
    Thank You,

Hi this is JH from Germany, i’ve got some problems with Flowplayer. It doesn’t show me the mp4-movies. Ive tried some paths on my Desktop and some to my Homepage, but it still doesn’t work in any way.
    This is the Error Text:
201, Unable to load stream or clip file, cannot access the video file (try loosening Flash security settings): Error #2148, clip: ‘[Clip] ‘File///Users/xxx/Sites and then the rest of the path to the movie
    Where’s my mistake?
    Greetings from Germany

  11. admin - http:// says:

What does your page look like when you load it to your web-site ?

It could be in preview that The Flash security setting are blocking the folder where you have the mp4

    Hi!

Love the tool. It’s just that I want turn off autoBuffering. I’ve tried altering the source code, but it just changes back to the default true-value.

    I’d be most thankfull!

  13. JH - http://www.js-bluesexpress.de says:

Hi, thanks for answering, but I’ve changed the MP4 File to a FLV7 File and uploaded it to my Webspace, i could use the link to embed the File in Flowplayer and it works great
Thanks again and greetings from Germany

  14. admin - http:// says:

Another version is being built at the moment undergoing testing, is there a reason as to why you want autobuffering turned off?

    2 admin:

Well, because I don’t want my visitors to have to load the movies every time they come to my site, they aren’t that interesting. I prefer a page that loads quickly.

But a problem with turning off autobuffering is that you then need to have a splash image, do you think it’s possible to include that to?

  17. Jeremy Henry Simmons - http://www.laffertystudio.com says:

Brilliant stuff, worked first time :-)

    Two questions:

1: Can I change the colour of the movie controls/skin?

2: The site I’m building has an image/movie width of 628px is this possible or is 600px the max?

  18. admin - http:// says:

    Hi there
An enhancement is in the works although this is pending an update from the guys al FlowPlayer too , as there are some awesome things that our Stacks Building team Kevin and Ronan have planned – stay tuned and thanks for letting us know that you have had success with this free stack add-on.

  19. Jacob Jamin - http://www.greenfunk.ca says:

Hi, I have been trying desperately to get this plugin to work. I’ve watched the video about four times, tried to do everything exactly as shown and I’m getting nothing. No error message, no warning, nothing. One thing I did notice however is that when Kevin adds the stack at the beginning of the video, some text appears in the stack in the edit window, I’m not getting that when I add the flow player stack, could that be a problem? Here’s a link to where it should be showing up but isn’t.
    http://www.greenfunk.ca/services/flow_player.html
It’s a quiet little corner I use for trying things out. Any ideas?

review the enclosed screenshot covering the settings in a stack although my video covers this :) http://thurly.net//r2

  24. Jacob Jamin - says:

I updated my Stacks plugin and it seems to have worked, it’s still complaining about the Flash settings though. I have another question, is there a way to customize the colors of the player when using the FlowPlayer Stack, as opposed to installing Flowplayer manually?

  25. Andy Johnstone - http://www.wilddogworld.com says:

I am also puzzled by this.

At the moment I cannot seem to get this to work. I have made and mp4 file using video Monkey and added the flowplayer stack to the page I am building in RW. Nothing plays in preview, but the FP box is there.

As far as I am aware i have a flash player plugin in Safari/firefox (I can play flash movies through my browser) but I don’t own a copy of Adobe Flash Player in my system as far as I am aware. Do I have to download this in order for Flowplayer Stack plugin to work on my machine? I thought that the whole point of flash was that 98% of browsers now have flash support built in. If this is the case I should be able to play the flash movie when I click “preview>safari” in RW, but I can’t.

    Thoughts please.

    Hi –

I’ve installed the latest versions of both RW and FlowPlayer. I can get the audio to work on my site but not the video. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  28. admin - http:// says:

    HI Kern
The movie needs to be saved as H264 , this one is using the MPEG4 compressor , I will mail you a link to a properly encoded file

Another question, please: is there a way to display a poster frame rather than the standard black frame of the player?

    Thanks –

    Hello,
I have try to use the plug-in, but it seems like not working; I mean, it doesn’t show anything, even if the link to my asset is correct. The only thing I have noticed is that the version of the flowplayers are out dated, they are Ver. 3.0.5 and not 3.1.1
    Could this be the cause?
BTW I have try also to change the file included on this plug in with the new version, but nothing change, I guess I am not an expert, but it was worth a try.
Could you please help me out.
    Thanks a lot,
    Regards

    Hello there
The free stack as developed some months ago carries no support. I would advise you look at FlowBox at symfonip [http://symfonip.com] watch the videos on their site for usage, alternatively if you require some custom integration yo can always hire them too

Hi, I have been trying to use the flow player but it keeps on telling that the video source is incorrect. I put it the video in assets or tried another one with a url but it keeps on giving same error.
How do I put the path on the inspector? or does it only take a specific file type. Don’t know what else to try.

  36. admin - http:// says:

    Hi there
Have you been in touch with symfonip , format of video , what theme are you using and url so the page can be viewed

Can you have the embedded player set to auto play? I see in the stack the code… but it doesn’t seem like I can change it to auto play to true.
