Dynamic Content Stacks from Blueball Design

dynamic_content_singleIntroducing the quick and easy way to update parts of your website or allow a client to do so without re-publishing with Rapidweaver.

Charlie over at BlueBall Design has introduced a new set of two stacks called “Dynamic Content”.

This video shows you how easy it is to use and make changes to a website. We actually update a test page online without using RW.

NOTE: Make sure to read the manual on installing jQuery if needed with the Rapidweaver Theme you are using on the web site. Also note the information on using www. or not using www. in the url to the file you update.

Again, great cast Larry, not sure if you can answer this, but what program would a client running windows use to edit the xml file?

I purchased the stacks but after downloading from their site and unzipping the files, I do not find any of the actual stacks. I have tried to contact them but cannot seem to get a response.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

I will add this link to the Post

You need to get in touch with the Stacks developer to sort that out :)

For a Windows user they could use the following windows app like XML Notepad 2007 from MS

On snow leopard at least and if I remember on leopard the “.stack” ext is not recognised by osx as a rapidweaver or associated with the stacks plugin. The instructions for installation indicate a double click which is inaccurate at least on mine and it sounds like other machines. In your home folder following the path below you should find a folder stacks. If it’s not there create it.

    ~/user/library/application support/rapidweaver/stacks/

In the zip file you have 2 folders with an extension.stack…Dynamic_Content.stack and Dynamic_text.stack. Just put them in the above folder

As I recall YourHead gave instructions how to add their extra content stack the same way. If your getting something other then a folder icon double clicking might work, but not with just showing a folder

I may be missing something here, but it appears that this is only useful for the web designer himself.

For a CMS that is useful to clients, giving them access to your server to edit XML files with additional applications doesn’t sound remotely viable (excuse the pun).

Most webdesigners would only be comfortable letting their clients edit content on a browser, without any extra apps, and without having to deal with XML code (or HTML, or PHP, or Javascript, for that matter).

This was Charlie’s first Stack. Who knows if anyone is truly using it. FreeStacks is his main gig now other than themes. But you need to have Rapidweaver and Stacks to use it. So the Designer is still involved. I think I would use Pulse CMS instead of this stack.

    Hi Andreas,

I don’t make it habit to host my client’s site for them. So they don’t have access to my server, they have access to the host they pay for.

Dynamic Content was the first stack that allowed a ‘client’ to control content in a RapidWeaver environment. Content Management options have grown since then. As Larry pointed out, PulseCMS.

I find that when a client wants control over content that I need to ensure to provide them with a variety of options, that I should be skilled in using, so they can determine which option best suits them.
